The perfect beginner pen for people just getting into the hobby. Also a great addition to an experienced collection as well. Comes in a cute little box and usually price around $10-15. Made of a high quality resin that feels solid in hand.

One of my favorite things is that it comes in a wide variety of colors. I have the clear and the transparent pink. Pilot released a madoromi series with pastel colors that I’ve been meaning to get.
Pilot makes wonderful nibs and its no different with the kakuno. This pen is praised for its well tuned, smooth nib thats shared with the metropolitan and prera. One of the best nibs for pens in this price range, even rivalling much more expensive nibs. Can’t forget the little smiley face on the nib either 🙂

The kakuno is a converter/cartridge pen. I have mine fitted with the con-70 which is reliable and easy to fill. It also elevates the look of the pen to the next level. However refilling pilot cartridges work just as well.
The kakuno comes in three widths: medium, fine, and extra fine. Personally the medium is my favorite while the fine is good for small writing. Extra fine becomes a little scratchy on certain papers.

This is a great pen for all skill levels in the hobby. The first pen that I ever purchased and will continue to remain a part of my collection. The clear demonstrator body is perfect for displaying the amount of ink remaining in the pen so you never run out.
